Chicago Southland Transit Initiative
Getting a few entities to agree to anything is difficult. It is exponentially more difficult when it requires coordinating 2 counties, 36 municipalities, and 46 TOD station areas. Transparency, outreach, and accessibility were the foundations for success of the Chicago Southland Transit Initiative. Through a structured approach of individual engagement leading to cooperative consensus building during each phase of the 18 month planning process, stakeholders came together to recognize the value, power, and benefits to be garnered by working as a unified entity. Cooperation rather than competition among the members is already paying benefits through increased development interest and activity in the area.
